While the buzz around the Dallas Cowboys is they have potential interest in adding one former Kansas City Chiefs player — Brian Waters — they parted ways with another on Thursday, cutting Cameron Sheffield.CameronSheffieldCowboys

A fifth-round pick of the Chiefs in 2010, Sheffield was a linebacker during his time in Kansas City, but was back at his original position of defensive end for the Cowboys.

Sheffield missed his rookie year after a scary preseason neck injury that saw him carted off the field. He was able to make his way back in 2011 and appear in all 16 games. The former Troy star made it through training camp with the Chiefs last year and looked like he might finally contribute on defense, but was released after Week 1.

During his time in camp with the Cowboys, Sheffield reportedly looked good going up against starting left tackle Tyron Smith. Any momentum he was building, however, was stopped by a groin injury earlier this week. That injury could end up leading to an injury settlement for the pass rusher.

Depending on the severity of the groin injury, we should expect to see Sheffield catch on with a team sooner rather than later. After all, teams are always searching for guys that can make their way to the quarterback.
